on the road
by rantywoman
Lots of packing up, loading up, cleaning up, and tears. My “non-committal” man cried in therapy last week over me leaving.
It felt so strange to drive away from L.A., especially once I hit the endless desert scrub. I can’t help but worry that I’m driving away from the city of opportunity and into a future of diminished expectations.
Perhaps it is all a desert mirage.
Bon voyage. Fwiw- my dear friend’s parents left Moscow Russia- where they had a decent life- but not great, to immigrate to Texas. They were in their early 40s, and didnt speak a word of English. They are now about 80, live in Tarzana. Things worked okay for them as it will for you!
Good luck and please keep us posted!!
Thank you– that’s encouraging!
Also- your post was beautifully written. Just summed up all your past year’s postings so perfect- poetic and visual.
Best of luck on this new chapter in your life!! You’ve finally done it! Whatever comes next – at least you’ve dared to take the leap of faith.
Your writing brings to mind a scene from one of my all time favorite tv shows – will not name it because it would be spoiler-ish, but suffice it to say that it involves a maiden with long russet hair driving towards her destiny….and what a gorgeous destiny indeed! 🙂
Now you’ve got me curious…
good luck out there. be proud that you are trying something new…
Thank you! I’m feeling emotional and have some mental doubts but no feelings of anxiety… so hopefully I’m on the right track.
Soo excited for you Ranty!! Maybe it’s the illusions that you’re diminishing, by stepping out of them into something that might feel more real. I can’t help but feel hopeful knowing that you’ve already got a couple social connections in your new mystery city …
Yes, I hope. Someone has already put me on a Facebook invitation for an event in my new city of residence– an encouraging sign. I will have to slowly “hide” or “unsubscribe” from my L.A. life.
Congratulations on taking the plunge! Don’t look at what’s ahead as something to fear, but as something to look forward to and find adventure in.
The very best of luck and warm wishes for the future 🙂
“If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go into business because we’d be too cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.” – Annie Dillard
love this, Mia!!
Thanks– that’s inspiring.
Lovely lady we are all on the journey with you. X
