I ran into someone I used to work with today and she seemed puzzled by me quitting my former job and moving back and she asked if I was independently wealthy, or something to that effect.
Grrrr.
I know if I had left work for a while to have children, nobody would question it. I think people just cannot understand someone taking alternate paths in life.
This is true. People who choose an alternate life path are often seen as a threat to the established order.
In L.A. there is a little more of a “live and let live” mentality but you are certainly right about that.
Yep, Jack is spot on with that. We have had to acquire the skills to live outside the box, but we are few!
Yes, I’ve been on an alternate path for a few years – unmarried, no children, quit my job and pursued a new career. A tough road, but I am finally beginning to see that it has been worth the effort. Some folks have been dismissive or disturbed about my situation, but I have also been pleasantly surprised by support and acceptance.
I wish you the best on your path.
Interesting, sounds like we have been going through a lot of the same stuff! Thanks for the support.
